The first resolution on women, peace and security, United Nation Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR1325), was unanimously adopted by United Nations Security Council on 31 October 2000.
The UNSCR 1325 strives to increase the participation and representation of women at all levels of decision-making, to ensure protection of specific needs of women and girls in conflict, consider the gender perspective in post-conflict processes, as well as in UN programming and the UN peace support operations.
The 2010 NATO Strategic Concept includes gender dimension in defense and security. The Alliance is firmly committed to gender mainstreaming in all policies and programs.
In line with that, as an organization that works in the field of security and international relations, the Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia (EACM) is committed on the results and achievements from the implementation of the UNSCR 1325 on national, regional, NATO and UN level.
The project takes a look into UN and NATO frames, results and challenges in the implementation of the UNSCR 1325. In the spirit of the regional work of the EACM we also searched for the implementation in the region: Albania as a NATO member, Bosnia & Herzegovina with its particular conflict and post-conflict experiences and Bulgaria as a NATO and EU member. We thank the Atlantic associations from these countries for their contribution and joining us in this effort.
This research resulted with the recommendations that EACM offers for further implementation of UNSCR 1325 in order to achieve improved results. We are grateful to the collaborators in the project: the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Labor and Social.
Policy of Macedonia, UN Women Office in Skopje, Atlantic Council of Albania, Atlantic Initiative - Bosnia & Herzegovina and Atlantic Club of Bulgaria.
We extend appreciation to NATO Public Diplomacy Division and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Macedonia for supporting this project.
Their support to the mission of the Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia in the past several years has been of immense importance in implementing the euro-atlantic idea and values in our society.
